Relations with Ecuador

The Republic of Ecuador and the Sovereign Order of Malta established diplomatic bilateral relations in 1953.

In 1985, a Postal Agreement between the Republic of Ecuador and the Sovereign Military Order of Malta was signed while in 2001 they stipulated a Cooperation Agreement focused on the enhancement of humanitarian action in the country through the Order’s national and international bodies.

Throughout the years there have been exchange of Visits at the highest level confirming the positive bonds of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta with the Ecuadorian people and institutions.

In recent time new health and social projects have been successfully set up by the Order’s National Association and Embassy, in friendly and productive coordination with the local authorities and communities.

Recently, on 14 May 2024 the Grand Chancellor of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, Riccardo Paternò di Montecupo, and the First Lady of the Republic of Ecuador, Lavinia Valbonesi de Noboa met at the Magistral Palace. Strengthening ongoing humanitarian projects and planning of future social collaborations the themes at the center of the discussions.
