EDUCATION
Mr. Fernandini obtained a Master of Professional Studies (MPS) from the university of Miami in Marine Ecosystems and society in 2023.
In 2010 he obtained the Presidents Program in Leadership (PPL) from Harvard Business School.
In 1994 he obtained an MBA from Madrid Business School.
In 1990 he obtained a BSBA degree in Finance and Business Management from Boston University.
PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES
Since 2020, he has served as the Ambassador at the Embassy of the Sovereign and Military Order of Malta in Quito, Ecuador.
From 2017 to 2020, he was Minister and at times Charge d’Affaires a.i. at the Embassy of the Sovereign and Military Order of Malta in Lima, Peru.
He serves as a member of the Board of Directors of “Sociedad Minera El Brocal SAA”. His family business dates back to the 1880s. He joined the company’s Board of Directors on March 25, 2004.
CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Mr. Fernandini has been a known benefactor for nearly two decades in Peru. One of his main objectives has been to share the country’s rich cultural heritage through its art.
He donated the construction of the Colonial Art Hall at the Museum of Art in Lima. The Museum receives 150.000 visitors per year.
To promote Peruvian cultural heritage, culture and education abroad, he donated a collection represented by eighty ancient pieces of archaeological pre-Columbian pottery that tell the story of two thousand years in the Jequetepeque Valley in northern Peru, where eleven civilizations from Mochica to Inca left their ancient legacy starting in 2200 B.C. Part of the collection has been on display around the world, for instance at: at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the Paul Getty Musem in Los Angeles, the Seattle Art Museum in Washington, the Musèe des Beaux-Arts in Montreal, America’s Society in New York, the Rietberg Museum in Zurich, the National Science Museum in Tokyo.
Mr. Fernandini has also donated the Camilo Blas Collection to the MALI Museum. This represents the world’s most complete compilation of the Peruvian Indigenous movement by artist Jose Alfonso Sanchez Urteaga (1903-1985) from the Cajamarca Region. It is represented by 1.667 pieces consisting of drawings, engravings, watercolors and paintings. Part of this collection has been exhibited in the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid, the “Museo de Bellas Artes” in Mexico City and the Blantom Museum of Art in Austin, Texas. The collection recently formed part of the 2019 ARCO Art Fair in Madrid, where Peru was among the participating guest countries.
Mr. Fernandini also serves on the Board of the SUMMUM Gastronomy Awards. This organization grants yearly awards to acknowledge and promote those who have made great achievements for Peruvian gastronomy, which is an essential part of its culture and heritage. Peruvian cuisine is recognized worldwide and it is one of the biggest attractions for tourism. These awards encourage chefs and local gastronomy professionals, highlighting the importance of the country’s gastronomy and its role in Peruvian society.
To further promote Peru, Mr. Fernandini serves on the Board of the World Monument Fund, creating awareness of cultural heritage at risk. He managed to include “Cerro de Oro” in the WMF watch list. This was one of the many archaeological sites being plundered and looted daily but has now been placed under official protection by local authorities and the central government in Peru. To protect other sites in danger he founded the Fernandini Archaeological Institute, where he serves as President, with the mission to preserve these sites and work on them to further explore the ancient history of Peru.
As President of the Naval Museum Patronage, Mr. Fernandini continues with his mission of embracing Peruvian heritage. The Museum has ten exposition halls that teach about the Peruvian Navy’s history.
HUMANITARIAN ACTIVITIES
Among his contributions to the Peruvian Association of the Sovereign Order of Malta:
Donation of a complete operating room for open heart surgery at the Order of Malta Divino Niño Jesus Clinic in the San Juan de Miraflores District in Lima
He has taken an active role in providing aid to approximately 300.000 patients per year, promoting vaccination campaigns which are held across the country and subsidizing other medical needs through his participation on the Board of the Cancer League in Peru.
Mr. Fernandini has been awarded the Pro Merito Melitense decoration for his services.
Mr. Fernandini serves as the Chargè d’Affaires at the Embasssy of the Sovereign Order of Malta in Peru.
